The central library, located at 150 Empire Street, serves a variety of purposes. The Empire Street building (which until 2004 had a much grander entrance on Washington Street) houses the State Archives in addition to serving as a regular library. Special collections range from books about the Irish to books about whist, checkers, magic and whaling.
