Not About The Buildings
The Library Show
For almost forty years, Providence's Firehouse 11 served the Washington Park community as a library. Then in early 2006, the library closed with just a few days' notice due to water damage to the roof. Since then, the people of Washington Park have been struggling to get along without regular library services.
This June, in a different Firehouse, The Library Show will look at the importance that the public library has in everyday life. Hip gallery Firehouse 13 will be converted into a library branch for the month, complete with books, movies, music, and lots of events. Click here for the full events schedule.
Additionally, we've got lots of art for you to check out, including work by William Allen, Mark Binder, Tanisha Mendes, Gunnar Norquist, Andrew Sloan, Russell Wolfgang-Smith, Neal Walsh, and The Artist X. Also, you can check out great art made by the students from School One.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, with lots of convenient evening and weekend hours (just like a good library ought to have!) And don't forget to come to our opening party on June 7--featuring storyteller Mark Binder and music by the DJs of BSR. The fun starts at six.
The Library Show has been made possible by a grant from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. We would also like to thank notaboutthebuildings, School One, Firehouse 13, LLAMAproduct, and Ada Books.
